Happy Solstice
Celebrating the longest day of the year with some high thoughts from my bathtub
To kick things off, I want to share some random thoughts I had from my bathtub:
Thought 1: I always bring a book with me when I run a bath but I rarely ever actually read it. Why do I have to bring an activity with me to sit in a tub?
Thought 2: I found a small box of lipsticks in my bathroom. I inspect them with light distain as I think about how each purchase felt so full of potential. How comforting it was at the time, standing in a CVS aisle, holding something that could alter my identity so quickly and easily.
Thought 3: The flip side to calling yourself “creative” is possessing a hungry part of you that deeply craves sharing yourself with everyone you know – especially the ones you don’t.
Happy solstice!
June 21st marks the first day of summer, but it feels like we’ve been having a summer already. I took a trip to the Jersey Shore to spend ten days with my family and did some low pressure sketchbook-ing while I was there.
I’m back in Portland now and already gearing up for my next travel adventure! I am going to Spain in July to experience a gouache art retreat with illustrator Rebecca Green!! I am looking forward to learning even more about sketchbook painting and indulging in this gift I’ve spoiled myself with. I’ll definitely share photos and art from the trip in my next newsletter.
Thanks for reading!
Upcoming events:
I have new and old work up at Fringe and Friends Salon
I’m hosting another Art in the Park class happening this Saturday from 4-6 at Laurelhurst Park! $25 and you get a sketchbook to take home. Sign up here
I’m in a show called You Did It! – the opening is July 9th at Turn, Turn, Turn on NE Killingsworth.
I have a print collection with The Crafted Prints which evolved from my sketchbook practice. The available work ranges from landscapes to abstracted florals with the color palettes I typically gravitate towards. These prints would look fantastic in a home – especially the one titled “Every Time My Heart Is Broken I Feel More Adventurous”
